Several large wrecks have also been recently sunk not far from the resort and now wait to be explored. With water temperatures averaging 80 degrees or better, few currents and visibility ranging from 50 to 100 feet.

Optional Activities at AKR offers excursions to remote islands such as Barbaretta and Cayos Cochinos, deepsea fishing and dolphin and shark combo dives.

Barbaretta is a verdant island located at the eastern most tip of Roatan, with spectacular scenery, crystal clear waters and virgin coral reefs. The island is made up of a fairly large bay, several small mountains, and is surrounded by calm waters, white sand beaches and isolated keys.

Boarding one of our Pro 48s, you’ll coast along the northeastern shore of Roatan island in comfort (approximately 1-1/2 hours). The trip consists of three dives: a drift dive at a site called “The Elbow”, another on the beautiful “Morat Wall” and another dive off the secluded Pigeon Keys. Diving in Barbaretta is not only remote and pristine, but provides divers a good chance of seeing nurse sharks, black tips, green and hawksbill turtles, southern stingrays, and schools of jacks, groupers and wrasses. Snorkelers will enjoy wading around the shallows of the Pigeons Keys.

This optional trip leaves the AKR dock at 7:30am, subject to water and weather restrictions. Lunch is served on the boat while anchored in one of Barbaretta´s many pristine bays, and returns at approximately 5:00pm.

This optional trip consists of three dives or snorkel opportunities. Weather permitting, one dive may be done on the trip over at one of the remote seamounts between Roatan and Cayos Cochinos. Here you’ll have the chance to see a variety of pelagic life and pristine reef rising up from the depths.

AKR’s Pro 48 leaves the AKR dock at 7:30am, subject to water and weather conditions. Following two morning dives, lunch is served at the tranquil Plantation Beach Resort. A third dive or snorkel is scheduled in the afternoon with the trip returning to Roatan at approximately 4:30pm.

Shark Dives: $100 plus 12% tax

AKR guest and visitors may now dive with sharks. The dive is done at a beautiful site on Roatan's south side at about 70-80 feet and one can expect to see anywhere from 8-12 Caribbean Reef Sharks at one time. This dive is a relaxed observational dive and not a typical frenzy seen on shark dives in other areas of the world. Minimum of 6 and maximum of 11 divers per dive.

All bookings for the Shark dives are done directly on island at AKR, and scheduling priority is given to guest of AKR. Participants are required to attend a short orientation.

All optional activities are booked and paid for at the resort.

Night Dives included in your package:

Just before sunset, AKR’s dive fleet departs for twice weekly boat night dives(Tuesday and Thursday — 2 night dives are scheduled to accommodate mid-week check-ins). Night dives are typically moored dives. The reef takes on a new look as the nocturnal creatures become more active, and guests are often treated to views of octopus, unfolding basket stars, spiny lobster and more.

Flashlights, video lights and strobes are available for rent through the photo shop to enhance your night vision.

Shore Diving:

Monday - Saturday: 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
If three boat dives daily and two scheduled weekly night boat dives don’t quench your dive thirst, AKR’s backyard lagoon and bay will. Particularly convenient for guests staying on our private islet, the dive shack on Anthony’s Key is staffed and equipped with air tanks for easy beach access to “Front Porch” reef, a vital area of the reef ecosystem often overlooked by recreational divers. Among the varied seascape, divers may observe eel, grouper, and octopus as they descend to depths of 40 feet or more, as well as schools of blue tangs, parrotfish, angelfish and damselfish, sea fans, star coral and brain coral. In addition, a small plane wreck in the lagoon at 30 feet is an excellent training tool for students and novice divers.

Tips for Travel to Roatan:

1. Due to current security measures, you'll need to allow more time for check-in,
security screening and boarding flights. Please check with your airline prior to
departure for the latest recommended arrival times and security guidelines. Reconfirm
your flights at least 72-48 hrs prior to departure.

2. It is also recommended you have a government-issued picture ID available at all
times, as well as a printed itinerary if you're using an electronic ticket.

3. U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport. Please make sure your
passport is valid at least 6 MONTHS from your return travel date. Residents of all
other countries should check with the Honduran Embassy/Consulate prior to leaving
for specific entry requirements.

4. Make sure your personal information is on all pieces of baggage as well as inside
your luggage. If luggage is borrowed, please make sure identification is your own, not
that of the person you borrowed it from!

5. Green luggage tags provided by Anthony's Key Resort should be used on all
luggage. This will help our personnel in Roatan identify your luggage and facilitate
clearance through customs upon arrival.

6. Unfortunately the airlines do not always deliver your luggage on time. The resort will do as much as they can to accommodate for equipment and other items, but please carry in your hand-luggage the following:
1. Extra pair of clothes
2. toothbrush
3. Medication, contact lenses, prescription masks, etc
4. C-card: You can not dive if you do not have that.

7. Please set aside U.S. $30 per person for airport departure tax from Roatan. Cash only is accepted.

8. We suggest TRAVEL INSURANCE: please ask about this if you have any questions. You can find DAN trip insurance information through our reservations page.

Tipping guide:

As the giving of tips is a very personal and individual matter, it is neither our place nor wish to tell you who to tip or how much, but since we do receive many inquiries from guests, we hope these simple guidelines will be helpful to you.

Individuals, who have personally provided exceptional service to you during your stay, we ask that the gratuities be given directly to them or placed in the box in an envelope with the individuals name.

• Dive master, boat captain, dining room waiter, bartenders, Camp staff for kids, front desk staff, luggage handlers, photo shop staff.

There is a back of the house tipping pool that includes those individuals who do not have direct contact with guests, but play a very important role in making your stay enjoyable. Gratuities for these individuals can be placed in the box in a single envelope.

• Kitchen staff, ground keeping staff, maintenance staff, RIMS staff, and administrative staff.

Gratuities for services rendered should be extended on the last day of your stay.

Please remember to fill out your PADI Diving Society applications and turn them into Kids Sea Camp for your Free PADI Diving Society Membership & your free issue of Sport Diver Magazine.

I look forward to spending this year Kids Sea Camp with you and your family.

Kind Regards,
Margo Peyton.
